November 20th

We had a security scare Thursday-- some folks said that it was a stabbing-- others said a gun--- anyway-- we were told to get off the courts at 4:00 and head out ASAP

Axel, Ruben, and kids moved so fast--- we were out of there in less that 5 min.

Friday was the last day before Thanksgiving Holidays---------many students were absent and we left at 3-- Donnea had a a fainting spell--nurse came to get her with a stretcher and two principals----- she has these horrible headaches-- hopefully she will get alot of rest and see the Dr. again-- something is not right-- and we were all very very worried about her. I went to the office and her Aunt had already picked up both sisters--- I was in shock---- I hurt when the kids hurt-------getting too old for problems. Have good helpers who keep me sane.

Bob and Mike were honored for finishing #1-- ATP World Tour---- #1 Doubles Team ALSO WON FAVORITE DOUBLES TEAM

WE ARE PROUD OF BOB AND MIKE AND THEIR PARENTS, KATHY AND WAYNE BRYAN--- THEY HAVE BEEN VERY GOOD TO OUR TENNIS PROGRAM FOR OVER TEN YEARS---DAVIS CUP--WESTSIDE TENNIS AND RIVER OAKS----WE HAVE BEEN BLESSED -- WE HAVE BEEN THEIR ADOPTED SCHOOL FOR OVER 10 YEARS.

Sorry-- Behind on all that is happening.

It has been a while.

My 99 year old Aunt Died-- Aunt Linnie--- she was blessed of have been loved by her family, community and town. My Mom had two sisters and three brothers still alive out of 12 brothers and sisters. Many said that I reminded them of my mom--- guess, I finally realized that I was my Mom's daughter.

Thursday, Nov. 11th-- I have my first root canal at 2:00---- hope that I can make it to work Friday-- hard to get a subst.--- even if I have 73 sick days that I will never use---I will retire in June of 2011. Keep telling myself this-------know that it will be difficult after 40 years of teaching and coaching.

Majority of the players have been practicing after school--- getting ready for the Spring when we travel on Friday's---giving it everything they have-- know that I would love to go to regionals one more time before I retire. Have to believe to achieve.

Bob and Mike are going strong----hoping that they continue with Davis Cup-know that they like to represent their country. Hope that their knees hold up.

Today, Wednesday, was a rain out------------------Coach H came home and slept for hours--- do not want anyone to know that my mouth hurts-------wish me the best.

We had a so so week after our wins against Baytown Lee Monday.

Many students had to study for Benchmark and 6 week exams-- so if you couldn't come to practice-- I said nothing-----Between grades being due and the heat-----we all seemed worn out--

Problem Thursday--- some guys that lied about being on the basball team stole a cell phone on the courts--- really sad--- will have to have more restrictions on who can get water---seems like some folks are thiefs--NEED TO STAY AWAY FROM THE TENNIS AREA-- OR I WILL FILE CHARGES.

Everyone went home at 3 Friday after a surprise party for senior Donnia Ford--Coach Hrncir had to pick up her Truck--- after the bus accident-- it is looking like new------

Sat. September 18th: Tennis Practice News

Friday afternoon is a FREE Practice Day-----About 10 players stayed to nearly 7 o'clock to share drills and thrills--visit and share---- so so peaceful.

I really got into reading a book and talking to players-- Ms. Emily from Memorial Park had donated us some good rackets and ones who stayed got first choice------

Barbers Hill is always Number One in our district---but we will do out best in Team Tennis Monday. Plan to go to CiCi's afterward--- only the players who read the blog will know--- secret of reading the blog.

Enjoying three grand daughters today and tonight-- letting the parents have a date night------ 3 year old, 5 year old and 8 year old---never a dull moment. Grandpa has them watching a new Hanna Montana Movie and Grandma is going up stairs to read and fall asleep. I am the only one who hears the girls during the night. Ha

Understand, that many of my players go to the Library on Sat.-- 4th floor--teen room---I remember going to the down town library when I was in college and Grad. school--- Of course, it is alot nicer and modern now.

Don't forget anything for our matches Monday at the Jr. College. Pray NO RAIN

La Shaun Landy won against Crosby last Monday-- 2nd seed playing 2nd seed. We played at San Jacinto Jr. College and everyone played hard and strong. The heat is something else---

Wed. night-- our home alarm went off--- someone was juggling the front door. Blessed that we have an alarm system-- alot of home invasions in our area.

Thursday, I received all of the Health Classes from Coach Madison-- it is all good---we just didn't have enough for two teachers--- she is working in another program and I received good students who want to learn----just wish that I would have been told in advance--- came as a shock-- but, all is good--

Thursday, Ruben brought us ice pops--a treat. and Mr. and Mrs. Hudson had us plums and chips-- and to top it off at about 4:00 we had a rain shower--enough to get us off the courts----seemed t cool everyone down. Special thanks to Coach Mills for coming by and helping me with a couple of my guys--- his expertise is always appreciated.

Today, we do not have official practice-- but I will be there-- in case someone wants to work out till 5:00-- I love to read on Friday afternoon--- my treat to myself and my kids.

Coach Lionel Crawford was shot last Friday night and is in serious condition.

I sent him an e mail that I would like to share with you.

Dear Coach Crawford:

I will never forget your time at Smiley and North Forest High.
Your support enabled me to accomplish so much in tennis.
Deeply appreciated the way that you stuck up for me when I was being taken advantage of by an inexperienced administrator.
Sincerely thank you for your professional concern for your coaches and players.
You never broke us down-- you built us up and took our teams to highs that we would have never thought possible in high school athletics.
We are thankful for your hard work during the four years that we were blessed to have you in NFISD.
Our prayers are with you and your family.

Know that she is among the angels---- and watches over me daily.

Last week of swimming is next week-- the five weeks have flown by-----be thankful to be lazy every day until we travel to Florida in Aug.

Guys left at 10:30-- and we ladies finished it up--even moved the lanes-----usually the guys help with those details.

we were rained out last week. This next week is pending-- will get this child's home phone and set up another time.

Session II went out with a bang Friday-- lots of smiles and hugs. Many thank you cards and a special family gave me a $25 Master Card-- a blessing.
There are so many-- I don't know who is who-- Ribbons were given out and I asked each helper to give comments about the students in an individual way--pretty special occasion with each class.

Spent the weekend with my mother in law in West Columbia-- she is lonely and we shop till we drop-- Big Lots and Hobby Lobby--- Lots of sharing and caring.

Last Session starts July 12th and Rachel is still with me and working at Ross---I have great helpers and super parents--- kids are positive-- parents pay for them to attend--- and they get results.

THIS HAS BEEN A GREAT SEASON AND YOUR COACHES ARE VERY PROUD OF YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS----- OUR WEAKEST DOUBLES DID NOT WANT TO GET OFF THE COURT IN THE RAIN YESTERDAY--- THEY ARE IMPROVING AND ARE MORE AGGRESSIVE--WARMED MY HEART-------HAVE KICKED IN THAT DESIRE TO ACHIEVE ON AND OFF THE COURTS.

SEE YOU WED. AFTERNOON---ACE THE TAKS!

Sunday, February 28, 2010

Feb. 24th: We waited till man finished the the courts --were on the courts by 5 p.m. ;GOOD FEELING!

One of our players told Coach Stewart that he felt like a pro on our resurfaced courts.

Thursday-- I had to go to TAKS training and I missed half of practice, but my leaders carried on like pros.

Friday: We traveled to New Caney Area--- 4 different locations and rain at noon--- did not finish up until dark------long long day.

Jonathan Ceron played singles and made it to the finals in consolation -- He was defeated 8-4 by a very rude young man--- he was listening to his music-- two ear plugs and Coach did not say a word--- you know that I wanted to rip them out-----need to address this issue at our next coaches meeting.

Rachel Hall--- made it to the semi finals in consolation before being defeated.

Aaliyah Hurd Foster and Jannesha Lee were in the finals in consolation before they were defeated.

I am not giving excuses-- BUT playing on the field behind the stadium while our courts were being redone--- could have been a factor.

We have two more tournaments until Spring Break and there will be a practice schedule out--then one more tournament----JV & 9th District--Then Varsity and Bob and Mike Bryan Coming to Town for the Clay Court Championship--
WE WERE THERE LAST YEAR-- ALL MATCHES AND THE FINALS--

THIS YEAR WE WILL HAVE TO WORK AROUND OUR DISTRICT--- BUT WE WILL BE THERE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.

Feb. 17th: They painted the green courts-- and the red out of bounds area.

We have had cement so long that it is hard to adjust to the colors and the beauty of our courts--without cracks and holes.

Great to see the progress outside my classroom window.

We practiced on the back parking lots again today--- left in time to get ready for tomorrow--( I make lots of sandwiches)- be sure that you have cleared info with teachers--- many are letting the kids take bench mark early or late. We will leave at 7:15 a.m. and are headed for the college San Jacinto-- that will be the base this time------

Life is change.

See you early in the a.m.----

February 5th; THIS WAS A GREAT DAY.

MY SUPER TENNIS PLAYERS AND I HAD ONE HOUR TO TAKE DOWN OUR SCREENS--WE SAVED THE WIND BREAKERS DONATED FROM THE WAYNE BRYAN FAMILY-- TO PASS DOWN TO THE NORTH FOREST MIDDLE SCHOOL---- OTHER-- OLD USED SCREENS WERE TORN DOWN--WITH MUCH HAPPINESS----- THE COMPANY THAT WON THE BID-- STARTED CLEANING OUT THE HOLES-- USING A POWER WASH MACHINE.

WE ARE VERY THANKFUL TO NORTH FOREST'S BOARD OF MANAGERS AND OUR A.D. FOR MAKING THIS HAPPEN AFTER SO MANY YEARS OF PLAYINGS ON DANGEROUS COURTS WITH HOLES. BOB AND MIKE WANTED TO COME OUT A FEW YEARS AGO AND I HAD TO SAY NO--DID NOT WANT TO TAKE A CHANCE OF ONE OF THEM GETTING HURT.

HOPEFULLY, NEVER AGAIN--BALL HITS A HOLE OR CRACK-- RE SERVE OR RE PLAY THAT POINT.

Workers will be working Sat.-- will notify the police department to get inside the gates.

Was a little sad to see the bench's and umpire stand removed--- our son who is in the Marines-- made them with his boy scout troop as his Eagle Project for our school--back in about 1998.

Time goes forward------------------------

Next tournament is the 18th---We will still practice after school--- working on control and ball skills--- I am looking at the back parking lot and maybe a gym -- if it is open. Do not want to take a bus somewhere----there are too few now.

Should be back on the courts in 2 to 3 weeks.

A blessing.

HAPPY M.L.K. DAY TOMORROW

This is the day that I get my yearly physical-- therefore ,I don't have to miss school (70 sick days stored up) and I can't forget.

Jan. 28th is our first spring tournament--we need to leave at 6:30a.m. to make trip to Barbers Hill. It is also the day that my husband and our son will be in DC for a brief photo with President Obama. Sean is moving from the unit that protects with the chopper-- to explosives tech. This is a type of token appreciation for his service---Robt. will be the parent with him.

I tease that he is going because I am teacher of the year and cannot NOT go to a tennis tournament--- have not missed in over ten years---never, even when I was home with surgery-- I came to school to take the players to tournaments.

Life has many great adventures.

So thankful to be alive and to be able to appreciate my life, family, kids, grand kids , Health students and NFHS Tennis players.

I am blessed beyond my dreams.

Jamie & Jay were on the courts Thursday afternoon

Dedicated
Called off practice Thursday due to required meeting--
Jamie and Jay were on the courts--dodging the water puddles
Of course, I had to find them snacks and water.

Sprint is a good company-- you just have to wait and wait and wait.( One hour plus and depends on who you get-- whether they are concerned)
Contract is up in a year---may need another company.
We wll try to start up again Monday---first tournament Jan. 28th -- We have 7 tournaments this spring season and we have a full team-- have lots of guys-- the girls are seven. I will be giving your names to counselors in April-- to place you in 7th period next year-- My 7th period Athletics is my traveling period.

January 6th: Welcome Back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We had two great practice sessions Tues. and Wed.( WE ARE HAVING VERY COLD WEATHER COMING INTO HOUSTON THURSDAY AND FRIDAY)

Wed. I talked to each group about our spring UIL Tennis Tournaments.
Importance of keeping grades up and good relationship with your teachers and parents. They have to allow you to travel and you have to be responsible for you grades and TAKS Scores. Of course, we are looking forward to district in April and Bob and Mike coming to Houston for the Clay Court Championships at River Oaks. We have our shirts ready and we are ready to cheer.

The next four months are going to be going at a fast pace. Get ready for a great adventure.
