Results: CE KING Varsity Spring Tournament

JaMarcus, Bakari & Joshua got to the finals Friday afternoon. The doubles and single players lost in tie breakers-- they never gave up. We know that we need to be more aggressive at the net and get those first serves in the box. Life is a learning experience. Our doubles team, a Freshman & a Junior played a doubles team from Kingwood Park that went to Regionals last year-- it was a close tie breaker.

This is a great tennis year for North Forest High. We have two more tournaments in March and Varsity District is April 6th & 7th-- we are striving for excellence. We know that we are in a very strong district, but we continue to improve and go for our goals.

Also, we are heading to the Davis Cup March 6th early in the morning. We are thankful to the Wayne Bryan Family for giving us this opportunity.

Be sure to check the Tennis Notebook by Dale Robertson this Thursday, March 5th--there will be an article about our quest.

Quickies: A week before we travel to Davis Cup

Tips from Wayne Bryan:
" Let's all try to wear red, white and blue for the Bros. Doubles Match on Saturday. And why not create a big poster or sign for Mike 'n Bob as Well? Best sign gets lunch on me"

"Tell your friends that the Davis Cup is being televised live on the Tennis Channel Friday-Sunday at 1:00 Eastern and 10:00 Western. Where we sit is usually on TV a lot so tell your friends back home to look for you...."

Bakari & JaMarcus have volunteered to help Wayne do a Davis Cup Clinic for Juniors at 8:30 on Saturday.

" So glad that you all are coming and be ready to root like hell in Birmingham. The best rooter each day gets lunch on Teresa Mac!"

We are excited about our quest, but we also have a tennis tournament tomorrow at CE King and San Jacinto Jr. College. This is our last tournament before our trip.

School Zone: Feb. & March 2009: Newsletter of NFISD

Tennis players & Coach head to Birmingham for 2009 Davis Cup: North Forest High School tennis players Jamarcus Payton & Bakari Samin will travel with tennis coach Loretta Hrncir to the 2009 Davis Cup Competition in Birmingham, Al., from March 6-9. The trip is a part of an enduring relationship the North Forest ISD's tennis program has had with the tennis coach Wayne Bryan, wife, Kathy and their sons, tennis doubles team and 2007 Davis Cup winners Bob and Mike Bryan. Bob & Mike are currently ranking number one in professional tennis. While attending a Texas Tennis Coaching Conference at NEWKS, Coach Hrncir was among a group of coaches that stood up and explained why they needed a Wilson racket for a deserving tennis player. Coach Hrncir & Willie Thompson wrote thank you notes and the friendship has continued over the last nine years. The show of gratitude has led to an affiliation between the Wayne Bryan family and the tennis team. Players meet with the family when they come to town, give workshops, act as mentors, & donate much needed equip.,wind screens, tennis bags, clothes, shoes, etc. The Wayne Bryan family has previously paid for Coach Hrncir & two players to attend the Davis in 2007. The USA team defeated Russia in Portland, Ore. & Coach Hrncir, Joshua & Mikeia were there for the first Davis Cup crown since 1995. North Forest High players were a part of history. North Forest Tennis players are grateful for the generosity of the Wayne Bryan family. Jamarcus , Bakari & Coach Hrncir are looking forward to attending the first round of this years Davis Cup competition against Switzerland. Of course, they are getting a chance to meet with their mentors and cheer the USA team, including Bob and Mike Bryan.
